----- BUDDHIST FILM SEASON -----
Double Bill - KUNDUN
Friday 7th May at 7:30pm
The film, directed by Martin Scorsese, spans events from 1937 to 1959 and is based on the life and writings of 14th Dalai Lama, from being found as a young boy to taking an active role in governance and religious leadership in exile in India. The film ends at the Indian border where a guard asks 'may I ask, are you the Lord Buddha?' The Dalai Lama replies:'I think that I am a reflection like the moon on water. When you see me, and I try to be a good man, you see yourself'. See Wikipedia entry for Kundun for details on this film.
Double Bill - IN SEARCH OF KUNDUN
Friday 14th May at 7:30pm
An emotion-filled encounter of Scorsese and his Italian and American team with the Tibetans who portrayed the key figures in the tumultuous recent history of Tibet. Features compelling interviews with Scorsese, His Holiness the Dalai Lama, production designer Dante Ferretti, and screenwriter Melissa Mathison.
EARTH PILGRIM
Friday 11th June at 7:30pm
Part of the BBC's "Natural World" series. Satish Kumar, environmentalist and peace campaigner, takes us on a spiritual journey to his beloved Dartmoor. A stunning film, beautiful and thought provoking - the splendour of the scenery perfectly complementing the beauty of the man himself.
